St Mary’s Catholic Primary School Erskineville is an innovative inner city school – a true oasis for children to thrive. We are a close knit community that values involvement from parents and our parish to create a vibrant and happy school for our students. We focus on active learning, trust and communication and encourage our students to pursue their academic and creative passions both in and out of the classroom.
We are committed to providing the highest standards of education and faith formation. We are focused on working with all children to ensure they reach their full potential in all that they do, providing opportunities to grow and maximise the gifts they have been given as individuals.
I trust you will enjoy exploring the many facets of our school as you navigate this website. We also warmly invite you to see the school in person.
St Mary’s Catholic Primary School Erskineville has a rich history dating back to over a century when it was established by the Sisters of Mercy in 1887. The school has been on its current site since 1912 and was operated under the leadership of the Sisters until 2007.
Charism Our charism is founded in the spirit of Catherine McAuley—the founder of the Sisters of Mercy—and the Mercy values which nurtures growth of the whole person spiritually, intellectually and morally.
We are proud of our deep connection with the Sisters of Mercy and the legacy created by Catherine McAuley. The Mercy values of service, respect, compassion, justice, courage and hospitality guide our policies and practices and are embedded in our pedagogical principles. In the value of hospitality, our community is always welcome to come in and enjoy a cup of tea with us.
Collaboration and respect are very much part of the school’s ethos and support our vision that all students should experience success.
Mission We ensure that our children grow in the knowledge and understanding of their faith and experience a caring and nurturing community that celebrates life, reaches out to others and actively cares for the world.
We develop a love of learning through providing a curriculum that is relevant and challenging, and our teaching practices adapt to meet individual learning needs of students. We enhance our facilities to ensure a safe, pleasant and happy learning environment.
We recognise achievements, nurture gifts and talents, serve others and form connections and partnerships with one another and our greater community for mutual enrichment.
