School Leaders
At St Mary’s Catholic Primary School Erskineville, we aim to develop leadership skills in all students and across all levels of schooling. Year 6 students are annually elected for the following leadership positions:

  • School Captains
  • Mercy Captains
  • Colour House Captains
  • Environment Captains
  • Innovation Captains
  • Wellbeing Captains

These school leaders assist with public functions such as welcoming visitors, hosting school assemblies, and taking leadership roles in school activities and the playground.

House System
Students are placed in one of four Colour Houses upon enrolment. The houses are based on our Mercy charism:

  • Coolock: Blue
  • McAuley: Red
  • McQuoIn: Green
  • Monte: Yellow

Students come together under these houses at our swimming and athletics carnivals and house points are awarded together with spirit awards for team participation. Students wear their colour house hats on sports day (Fridays) and family members are placed in the same house.

Student Council
A Student Representative Council is formed each year with two student representatives elected from Years K–6. The SRC meets to discuss, plan and implement student-generated ideas.

Buddy System
Year 5 students are paired with Kindergarten students each year to develop their leadership role with younger students. Other classes buddy up informally throughout the year for lessons together, special events and playground activities.
